Ever thought about giving up your dreams of launching a multi-million dollar tech start-up, and just running off into the country to be a farmer? Not that we'd ever suggest you do such a thing, but if you'd ever considered it, here's your incentive. The AP reports today that a "black watermelon" was auctioned off in Japan for $6,100 today. First, there's fruit auctions? Second, $6,100—seriously? 65 others were also sold during the auction, but the $6K melon was the largest of the lot, which apparently was a part of the first of season harvest. This comes a month after a pair of cantaloupes sold at auction for $23,500.
Think about it: employ a little American GMO technology, a lot of Miracle Gro, and you could have a field worth of melons worth milllons. I'm just kidding though. Sort of.

Reminds me of the Dutch auction namesake:

Wow, I finally get to use my 2nd favorite Wikipedia entry in a somewhat appropriate and mildly related context!
You'll have to post something related to Ghostbusters II to see my all time favorite Wikipedia entry....
