Success Story: AirBed and Breakfast

Ever had trouble finding a hotel room in a busy city during high season? One clever start-up has addressed that problem. AirBed and Breakfast—which sounds exactly like what it is—is a start-up that helps travelers find a bed in cities where they can't find or afford a hotel room. And, no they're not joking about the airbed part either. People who have a room, air mattress, or even an entire house available can post it on the site, along with information about themselves and their asking price per night. While nightly rates tend to be on the low side (under $100), they range from $1 all the way up to $3,000/night (which better be for a room in Britney Spears' manse).

The site is bare bones, as TechCrunch notes, but it least appears to do what you need it to. You can quickly and easily search the dates you need a room in a particular location, and can book it and pay for it immediately. While that's not rocket science, it's still impressive because the start-up was boot-strapped for less than $20K that the company's founders coaxed from friends and family - and because it actually works.

While obviously there's a certain element of caution that should be exercised when using a site like this (lest you find yourself shacking up with a perv or a killer), we poked around our neighborhood to see what was available and everyone looked pretty normal. We were particularly fond of this guy who's offering up his couch for $25/night:

"I am a student (Computer Engineer) I love technology, startups, DJing, DJ equipment, gadgets, beer and drinking. You will find most of those things present at my place."

Sounds like a sweet deal to us! Thoughts?
