Second Round Funding: More Money, No Problems

Sure we're in the midst of a credit crunch and a maybe-recession right now, but there's still first and second round funding out there for small business. Tech start-up Mozes announced this week that they secured $11.5 million in second round funding, after raising $5 million last year (via TechCrunch). What surprised me is that Mozes is one of those free funky mobile businesses where users text in keywords to join a free subscription service (You've seen the ads on TV: "Text LOVE to 899999 for your FREE HOROSCOPE"). What makes Mozes a little cooler than those services is that this one is actually useful. Users text in keywords related to their favorite bands and then receive new information, updates, and messages from the artist on their mobile. Members can then respond via text to messages from their favorite artists (although no word on whether those messages actually get transmitted to Beyonce or Death Cab).

According to TechCrunch, Mozes is looking for a new lead web developer and they're so flush with cash that they're offering the person who just refers the final candidate $10,000 cash, a $500 Starbucks gift card, two plane tickets to Hawaii, and a Sony Bravia 60-inch 1080p Rear Projection HDTV.

Heartening news for small business owners looking for second round funding!
