No matter what you think about Microsoft, you have to give them credit for keeping their cash flow up. The company announced at the GameFest conference today that they're letting gamemakers who use their XNA development studio to create XBox 360 games actually sell them to other users. Wannabe developers will then share the spoils with Microsoft. The details of how that's going to shake down are here, but here's the quick and dirty: games will be priced from $2.50-$10, depending on their size, and Microsoft automatically gets a 30% cut of every game sold. If your game is actually good, and gets promo-ed, Microsoft could take up to 60%.
Either way, it's not a bad deal for home video gamemakers or Microsoft - at least on paper. Because if the following image is indicative of what homemade games actually look like, it may be awhile before either party makes any money off the deal:
