More Money: Here's Who Got Funded This Week.

It's been yet another rough week for the economy, but fortunately it's time for our weekly bright spot: our round-up of some of the start-ups that secured funding this week.

-VeraLight, Inc. secured $20 million in third rounding funding this week for its high-tech diabetes testing device called a Scout. The Scout shoots a ray of light at the skin to measure glucose levels so a patient doesn't have to draw blood. They've received a total of $43.5 million in funding to date.

-Getting older means losing your marbles. Enter brain games like Lumosity, which are intended to combat the problem. Lumos Labs, the maker of Lumosity, scored $3 million in first round funding this week. Says one of the VCs from Pequot Ventures, who partially funded the deal: "We've been doing a ton in gaming, and have looked at a lot of casual games plays, but this is one of the few with a solid business model out of the gate, a unique value proposition, and has been growing very nicely."

-Algae-Based fuel maker Sapphire Energy secured $50 million in VC funding to continue its work with algae, which, through a combination of sunlight and carbon dioxide, makes a green crude that's chemically identical to crude oil. Wild.

-oDesk raised $15 million in third rounding funding for its technology that allows employers to monitor employees who work remotely. Just what the world needs—yet another way for your boss to spy on you.
