Is There Real Opportunity In This Mess?

If there's one piece of good news for entrepreneurs amidst the economic meltdown, it's that there is new and unique opportunities to succeed. Or at least that's what most business experts, journalists, and bloggers (us included) have been spouting since the crisis struck a few weeks ago. The thinking goes that tough economic times give entrepreneurs the chance to refine their business plan. To reassess their costs and expenditures. To find deals that didn't exist before. To beat out the weaker competition. And become leaner and more efficient.

For this week's survey question, we want to know whether you agree. Do tough economic times make for better business plans, and stronger businesses? Or do they simply make for harder, more epic struggles for the entrepreneurs trying to weather them?

Maybe not only the ones who were already doing well, but those that would have done well anyway. If you can start a business now, you likely could have done it anytime (but by starting now, you'll probably have a stronger business). Shaky ideas that might have gained traction in better times will probably not find much opportunity now.
