We use and love Google just as much as the next person. But we've gotta call b.s. on some comments made by Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Wired says that at an event in San Francisco organized by Syracuse University, Schmidt reportedly told a crowd:
"The goal of the company [Google] is not to monetize anything," he said. "The goal is to change the world—and monetization is a technique to do that."
So, basically what you're saying, Eric, is that while the goal isn't to really to cash in, it's just the only way that Google can bring about that warm and fuzzy world change you guys really care about!
Right.
That silliness aside—those of you who are freaked out about Google's imminent world take over? Set your countdown clocks. Schmidt did admit that Google's ambition is to "change to world." And when you think about it, that's probably just tech speak for taking over the globe.
