Every time I see a picture of one of the Olsen Twins, the first thing that pops into my head is that they need to eat a cheeseburger. The second is the dollar figure attached to them. Forbes named them the eleventh wealthiest women in entertainment in 2007, with an estimated net worth of $100 million. You've gotta hand it to the Olsen twins—they (or whoever is really behind the curtain) are fierce entrepreneurs. Despite the fact that they started out playing a toddler on the tragically bad '80s sitcom Full House, these girls have built a ridiculous empire with businesses spanning multiple industries. On top of their already lucrative company, DualStar Entertainment, a high-end clothing line (The Row), and a Wal-Mart tween line, the pair is now launching a jewelry line called Elizabeth and James that will be sold at high-end boutiques throughout the U.S., reports Women's Wear Daily.
What remains to be seen is whether the Olsens can actually sell anything besides pink backpacks to tweens shopping at Wal-Mart. Their high-end line, The Row, is scarce, and little information is available on its success. Like a lot of stars before them, it may be that their celebrity simply doesn't translate into big sales at boutiques and retail stores. The Olsen's may be aware of this though, as it's been reported that they actually tried to separate their name from their high-end clothing collection. That strategy might not be a bad one, given that these girls are best known for exclaiming "You Got It Dude!" and being overly thin. But maybe I'm just being harsh...
