A few weeks back, we wrote about a ridiculous burger that a Wall Street bistro was shilling to traders for a rich $175. Now Burger King—you heard it right, Burger King—has inexplicably entered the fray in the UK. BK's "The Burger" costs a fat $185, and is made with Wagyu beef, white truffles, Pata Negra prosciutto, and onion tempura made in Cristal—and that's just the tip of the iceberg (Himalayan rock salt and Iranian saffron figure in too).
Apparently this is an attempt by Burger King to get in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive burger. While that alone is ridiculous enough (does anyone care about the Guinness Book of World Records anymore?), it seems equally insane that they'd launch such a burger when most people here and in the UK are cutting back. While Burger King officially says that it's an extension of its "quality burger menu", I'd say that they've lost their way on this one. But don't take my word for it. Check out this video made by the UK's Telegraph, where they ask passersby to taste the burger, and then to guess how much they think it costs. Never forget who your customers are, BK!
