Breaking: Women Use The Internet!

Does your start-up target women? Looking for a better way to reach them with advertising? Two words: get online.

It may not be a total shock, but new data reveals that woman increasingly are logging on to read blogs, shop, or do research. What is surprising is that major media buyers are just getting hip to the trend. In July alone, more than 84 million female readers viewed blogs geared towards women-centric topics, according to the New York Times. These include websites about motherhood, make-up, celebrities, DIY, and design, and are often written by women. What makes this a particular a boon for the small business owner whose companies target these women is that these sites provide plenty of advertising opportunities.

While some of the blogs with the highest page views have major advertisers clamoring for their ad space (think J.C. Penney and Wal-Mart), there's scores of sites where start-ups can find suitable advertising space—the sheer volume of blogs alone guarantees that. The key is finding blogs and websites that have content that's relevant to your business, and then securing prominent ads on their page.

While this strategy certainly isn't rocket science, it could be a more effective way to reach the female members of your target audience for a relatively low cost.
